Parents:
The best way to contact me is by email. I check my email before/after school and during lunch. Except on rare occasions, I respond to all emails before I go home for the day. If you want to reach me by phone, I am most likely to be able to talk with you between 8AM and 8:30AM. I am also usually available to talk from 11AM to 12:45PM.
Alice Vail's website can be found at: http://vailms.tusd1.schooldesk.net/
HOLT website: This is the website that goes along with the algebra that I teach your child. If he or she is absent or needs additional practice, this is where to go. There are videos that will teach your child, and you, how to solve the math. There are practice problems, interactive quizzes, and the book pages all at this site. Follow these directions to log-in:
Go to my.hrw.com (no www) - you can just click on the link
Username: valgebra3
Password: algebra
Click "Log In"
Click the link "Go to the Online Textbook"
Use the top left drop down box to select the chapter and then click on the red "Go" button.
From there, play around with what is available on each of the 3 tabs (Book Pages, Student Resources, and Videos & Activities) until you get used to where everything is. This is an extremely useful resource and your child should be logging on to it weekly to practice.
Grades: 65% Assessments, 20% Classwork/HW, and 15% Final.
A word about cellphones: Students may bring them to school, however during class and between classes they must remain in backpacks (not pockets) and must be completely powered OFF (not set on vibrate). Game playing/texting/calling during or between our classes is NOT OK. If a parent needs to contact his/her child during the school day, call the office, 584-5400. If a student is using a phone during class, the teacher may confiscate the phone and place it in the school office where the general policy is for a parent to pick it up. Students should generally not text or call a teacher’s cell phone without parent supervision
